Brandon Perna reviews Broncos at 49ers

Brandon Perna reviews the second preseason game.

Paxton Lynch started for the Denver Broncos in their second preseason game. This week they played Brian Hoyer and the San Francisco 49ers. Many believed Lynch could win the starting QB job if he performed at a high level with the starters against the SF Defense. Lynch went 9/13 for 39 yards and zero touchdowns. Trevor Siemian looked much better in his second game of the season finishing with a 128 QB rating, 8/11 for 1 TD.

Siemian just seemed to see the field better than Paxton, understanding his progressions and putting the ball in the right places. Rookie running back De’Angelo Henderson got second team reps, and looked like the best player on the field. He and CJ Anderson should have an amazing season at the RB position. I’d guess that Siemian will get the start next weekend against the Green Bay Packers. Also, ESPN reported that Brandon McManus kicked a 78 yard field goal. That was not true.

The problem for the 49ers was turnovers. It plagued them during the blowout loss to the Broncos. SF had 5 fumbles 4 of which were lost, but did manage a 104 kick return for a touchdown by Victor Bolden in the 4th quarter. Both teams combined for 22 penalties for 176 yards which almost made Pete Morelli lose his mind.
