The Denver Broncos begin their pre-season journey on Thursday night, with a trip to Chicago to take on the Bears at Soldier Field. One standout from training camp is no other than recently drafted Garett Bolles, who will start at left tackle for Denver in the windy city.
Bolles has impressed during Broncos training camp so far. Going up against one of the best, Von Miller, has clearly helped Garett’s development and his experience will begin fully with his opportunity on Thursday night. The Broncos released a depth chart on Monday, listing Bolles as the starter, per DenverBroncos.com:

Head Coach Vance Joseph was vocal on Garett’s development over the last few months. “We’ve watched the spring. We watched the first two weeks of training camp, and he’s played well,” Joseph said. “In my opinion, he’s earned a right to start the game. That being said, we’re still competing there with Donald [Stephenson] and Ty [Sambrailo], but he’s played well enough to start the game there on Thursday.”
Bolles is keeping calm and is determined to show what he can do. “Until it’s official in Week 1, then that doesn’t faze me,” he said. If he was to start the first week against LA, Bolles will become the fourth different left tackle for the Broncos in an season opener in four years. Previous to that, recently retired Ryan Clady started every opener for the Broncos from 2008-2014.
There is no doubt that from last seasons performance, the Broncos needed to draft players who could give the quarterback protection. This was next to non-existent in the 2016 NFL season. Bolles has impressed thus far and the hope for John Elway is that he can continue to handle this pressure and improve the Broncos fortunes. With Bolles’ confidence and stature, there is no doubt that he can become a very successful player for both the Denver Broncos and the NFL in future.
It all starts Thursday in Chicago.
