From January 2011, John Elway has worked as the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Denver Broncos. Throughout his tenure, the organisation has been through a large amount. From signing free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, the Broncos have won four division titles, two AFC championships and have also appeared in two Super Bowls, winning Super Bowl 50.
Now, the Broncos and Elway are at a crossroads. Will the legendary quarterback stay at the organisation, or will he move on?
Woody Paige of the Colorado Springs Gazette suggests that Elway will sign a new contract, becoming the NFL’s highest paid Vice President/General Manager.
Paige states that Broncos and Elway are negotiating a long-term agreement that could be finalised privately this week and should be announced publicly before training camp begins July 27. “We’re working to get it done,” Joe Ellis, Broncos CEO and president, told The Gazette exclusively. “We’ve had some productive discussions in the last week or so and will keep talking. John’s an important part of our organisation, and we want to make sure he’s here for a long time.”
Elway last spoke about his current status back in May, speaking to the Associated Press.
“We’re continuing to work at it,” Elway said, via ESPN.com. “I don’t see any problems with that. I look forward to being here with the Broncos for a long time.” He added: “I don’t think there will be any doubt” a deal gets done before the season opener.
Lets hope we have an announcement before the Broncos start training camp.
